Description of Duties
Developing, delivering and coordinating classes at all levels of undergraduate teaching, with a particular focus on oral classes;
Preparing relevant and up-to-date materials for use in teaching that engage with topics
being taught across the Spanish curriculum, as well as reflecting current developments in language learning;
Preparation of module handbooks;
Providing support for academic staff and students; working in collaboration with the language teaching team;
Providing a frontline trouble-shooting service for students and academic staff;
Providing specialist lab support to the undergraduate students;
Assisting Language Coordinators with installation and setting up of new language software;
Conducting and assessing undergraduate group oral examination in Years 1 and 2;
Conducting and assessing Honours-level oral examinations;
Providing wr itten feedback to students on their performance in oral and written assessment;
Direct involvement in assessment design, delivery and feedback;
Act as module co-ordinators for the beginners language stream modules;
Carrying out any other duties within the scope, spirit and purpose of the post and its grading as requested by the line manager.
Essential and Desirable Criteria
Possession of a relevant, good quality first degree. Native Spanish speaker.
Knowledge & Experience
Teaching skills and experience at Higher Education level relevant to oral and written Spanish classes at all levels from beginners to Honours (A1 to C2), including direct involvement in assessment (design, delivery, feedback).
Skills & Attributes
Experience of designing a course and its delivery.
Effective communication and presentation skills in both Spanish and English.
Ability and willingness to contribute to the professional life of the Division as a whole. Demonstrable commitment to the enhancement of the quality of learning and teaching. Demonstrable ability to use technology for course delivery.
Classroom management from small conversation groups to plenary sessions.
Teaching at postgraduate level.
Teaching translation courses.
Awareness of current foreign language methodologies. Practical e learning experience.
